Jehovah’s Witnesses to meet in metro
More than 3,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses from around Nova Scotia will gather in Dartmouth next weekend for the 2006 Deliverance at Hand district convention.
Witnesses around the world are holding similar gatherings this year and are inviting the public to attend to learn about the deliverance from current world problems they believe is imminent.
The local convention runs at the Dartmouth Sportsplex starting at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and no collection will be taken.
The themes for the weekend are the need for deliverance by God from wickedness and lawlessness in the world, scriptural evidence of the promise to do so and signs that transformation is at hand.
There are 35 Jehovah’s Witness congregations in Nova Scotia. They cite references in the Gospel of Matthew to wars, famines and earthquakes that precede the end of the age as evidence that deliverance is near.
When that time comes, they say, God will create a paradise on Earth, granting eternal life to those judged righteous. Those deemed unrighteous will cease to exist.
