ASHWAUBENON — High turnout marked the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ annual three-day “Guided by God’s Spirit” district convention last weekend.
The peak attendance of 7,186 included Witnesses and non-Witnesses from Northeastern Wisconsin and northern Michigan. The program from May 23 to 25 at the Resch Center focused on what the Witnesses say is mankind’s vital need: guidance from God provided through his Holy Spirit.
“Young People — Safeguard Your Relationship With Jehovah!” was a convention highlight on May 23. Bible-based encouragement was given to help young people become close to God. The audience received a new publication, “Questions young people ask — answers that work”
“Empowered by Holy Spirit,” presented on May 24, highlighted the role of the Holy Spirit in helping individuals young and old to resist temptation, cope with discouragement, withstand harmful peer pressure and endure adversity.
“Do Not Leave ‘the Love You Had at First'” was the title of a full-costume drama in Sunday’s afternoon program. It depicted attitudes and situations that likely existed among Christians at the end of the first century.
The Witnesses welcomed 21 people who joined their ranks by getting baptized in an ordination ceremony on Saturday. Witnesses view baptism in the name of the Holy Spirit as vital to receiving God’s guidance and continued blessing.
